child and forced marriage: ways forward
Educating families within refugee camps on the difficulties of child marriage is key in order to prevent it. One way of doing this is through sharing stories of girls who have become young mothers and since been abandoned by their husbands with very few rights, as this is a common occurence with child marriage. The UNFPA have held workshops within communities where 24% of 15-17 year-olds are married in order to change attitudes towards child marriage.
